| no partners | | We spent Saturday and Sunday (May 27–28) in Burgas, Bulgaria on the shore of the Black Sea. We ate dinner right on the pier at a nice restaurant. My wife was tempted to try the calf brain or beef tongue, but I talked her into a nice yummy lemonade and a chicken dish, instead. .
After dinner, we enjoyed a nice stroll along the beach, and then walked through the “sea garden,” which is a large park that parallels the seashore for a mile or two.
We ran into two concerts, one overlooking the ocean by some teenage rock bands, and another (more professional) one on the main walking street with a mix of performers—singing everything from Tina Tuner to opera, and with hip-hop dancing.
The owner of the place we stayed in showed us a great local bakery and recommended we try gyuzleme—a Turkish version of banica, which we bought freshly prepared and hot (see photo). It was delicious!
We went to seen the “pink lake”—a salty reservoir where people float/soak and then coat themselves in supposedly healthy/healing mud, before rinsing in the nearby sea. The water looks pink due to the shrimp that inhabit the water. But we couldn’t find the access point, and the weather wasn’t ideal, so we just headed on to our next stop, the historical capital of Bulgaria—Veliko Turnovo! |
