| no partners | | I backpacked in to Meysan Lake in the afternoon on the 14th and set up camp on the north side of the lake on the cliffs that overlook the lake. I took water from a stream that rose from a spring just above where I camped. On the 15th I climbed Mount Irvine (but foolishly skipped Mount Mallory) and on Sunday the 16th I climbed Lone Pine Peak. I had some other weekend climbers from southern California with me from Friday to early Sunday, and after they left I had the place to myself until I ran into someone hiking up the trail Monday around noon while I was descending. Incredible views of the night sky and fantastic, but cold weather made this a great trip to end my California Vacation on. I love this basin and trail and would gladly do it again. It took me about 4 1/4 hours to enter on the 14th and 2 and 1/4 hours to leave on the 17th. The best part about backpacking this as opposed to my other packing trip (Mount Russell in the Whitney Zone): No Wag Bags to carry down. |
