| no partners | | What an awesome hike. I started at about 7am and found a pack of javalena (8-9 of them) at the first wash by the trail head. I think we both startled each other. I did the hike counter clockwise, and strongly suggest it to first timers. you'll see why in a minute.
The trail was fine up to the pass part. I hate high places and walking on the edge of high places. however, the view up there was soooo worth buckling down and moving forward.
I stated that the trail was fine up to the pass. this was because once you get over the pass "Hold onto your horses." The view is breath taking. there is a constant shot of the four peaks off to the right, and what I believe to be the rim up near Pine. If ever I needed justification for hiking, and I don't, it is this view. it is not a gradual view either. you hit the Pass' zenith, and then "Hello", the valley opens before you like nothing I can describe.
the one and only drawback is that for 1/2 the hike there is the constant reminder of urban sprawl. Oh, but is that ever put aside by that view from the pass, and along the east and north side.
This is now one of my favorite hikes, and I will do it again. |
