I stayed up late the night before and didnt make it to the trailhead until 2pm!! It was pretty hot, and I really killed me for the first half of the hike until I found some shade. I was trying to move quickly because on my way in the eastern skies were dark and full of lightning and rain, and I didn't want to get stuck in a late season monsoon. Isolated in the canyon the sky directly above me never really clouded up, but when I reached the saddle and was able to see east I finally realized that the storm was very, very close. The wind was blowing, the air smelled like rain, and I was still in the sunshine and watching a major storm rolling right up on me. It was such a good looking storm I decided to risk getting wet and hang out for a while and enjoy the view. I don't think I have ever been to the saddle and been all alone, but I had the entire place to myself. The most interesting thing that I saw was a peak off in the distance that was clearly smoking from a lightning strike. I watched and took some pics until I started to get wet, then I got down as quickly as possible. Anyway, good hike, more to look at than my other visits. |
