| no partners | | Made my first visit to the Four Peaks to see what all the excitement was about, even though with the winter storm we had a couple weeks ago I wasn't sure what the conditions would be. The gully up to Brown's Peak had some icy spots but nothing too bad. Stupendous views on top, I could see the San Fran Peaks 100+ miles away. But looking to the south, the ledge systems up to Peak #2 had enough snow and ice that I wasn't going to proceed that way. So I went back down, around the west side of the peaks and climbed up Peak #4 instead. More frozen snow near the top on the north-facing slope, but no problem with my Yaktrax on (if you've never used Yaktraxs, I've found them to work great on moderate snow and ice).
I know it doesn't count as a Motherlode, so I'm calling it my "end-around lode". Maybe next year I can get the full adventure with some of the veterans, many of whom just can't seem to get enough of this "hike". |
