| no partners | | | Opened the garage at 6am this morning to find it was raining. More of a drizzle really. Usually, Wind Cave is just a mid-week fitness run/hike for me, but this time I grabbed my waterproof camera. I met up with my friends Amanda and Rand and we proceeded to the trailhead. As we arrived, the trickle of rain stopped. The mountain was covered in fog. We strapped on headlamps and hit the trail along with Amanda's golden retriever Chevelle. Within a few hundred yards, a pack of coyotes started in with their howls and cries. They were very close. As we hiked up to the cave, the fog appeared to lift. We turned off our lights about half way up. Just when we thought it would clear, the fog began to reappear. First it blanketed our view of the valley, then the nearby mountains, then the trailhead was out of view, and soon we were in the middle of the haze. Visibility was reduced to just a few hundred feet. This normally routine hike turned out to be a cool hike in the clouds. |

| This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee. |
