| no partners | | Proceed to the parking area at Juniper Flats in the middle of the park and check in. Hike down the road to the Lost Horse Mine turn-off. Go up the road to the day use trail head. I did the hike clockwise. I was good this way because you pass through the burn area first. I camped on the ridge NE of the mine behind the mountain overlooking the valley. Excellent! Hiking back was good with some downhill then mostly flat. Getting back to where your car is parked adds significantly to the distance but overall it's a great overnighter. Any more than that and you'd have to pack so much water it would be unbearable. No water is available in the back country (even in winter.) |
