Underwhelming Belt Clip and Button for the Garmin 60CSx ...

Post by paulshikleejr »

With the search for gpsjoe going on, this is a trivial issue. My hat's off to all those who can help.

The belt clip/button system is poor. I just cracked the plastic on the belt clip that holds the button. This after a couple of months of the unit just resting in the clip because the plastic nub in the clip securing the button had worn down.

Garmin is selling this item on their Web site, but I'm not thrilled about forking over $13 plus tax and S/H for another half-solution.

Are there better ways folks have found?

It's just a basic late-90's cell phone belt clip, so I never used it. I've used a couple different things, all of which worked well enough, none of which where outstanding. The soft case with the big belt loop is good if you don't mind zipping and unzipping. I also have a couple add-on shoulder strap pockets that are functionally equivalent. More often I just carry mine in a deep pants pocket, sometimes with a leash, sometimes not.

Be nice to have it tethered on a bullet proof retractable coil cord somehow.

This is a big reason why I loved my Oregon so much. The bomber proof carabiner system just works.

@paulshikleejr
Like you, myself and many others who actively use our 60CSx with the Garmin#010-10380-00 belt clip with screw in nub are not happy with this Garmin solution. I personally have not found a better solution, so periodically I buy extra clips not from Garmin but from Amazon.com through one of their subcontract suppliers: Bostic Wholesale Company and other subcontract suppliers (for ~$4.25 to ~10.95/ea + shipping cost)--> http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... ikearizona Garmin has a better solution on their new model 62s (used and recommended by GPS.joe) that replaced the 60CSx, but many of us are not yet ready to take the plunge to this new 62s for various reasons.

I always keep mine in a front shirt pocket. I'm told this degrades accuracy but not in my experience.

I lost my 60cx to the bottom of the Verde River because of the clip's design :(

Thank you for sharing.

tkknc messaged me about a clip he put up on youtube that shows his way of addressing this problem:

I'm more and more thinking of trying to fabricate a metal clip that would screw into the existing hole.
