After we finally broke camp (it was a lazy day down at Rustler Park), we drove up a spell to take this route since it was the shortest route up to the lookout. Upon talking to the lookout, though, she said that this route is the steepest! Perhaps - there were no switchbacks until we reached the junction with the Crest Trail. It was just one long (1/2-mile) haul up. We met up with the Bootlegger Trail (gosh I love that name!) and headed on the remainder quarter-mile to the lookout (this section had five switchbacks). The lookout here said she usually staffs Sugarloaf and this was her first season on Barfoot. She likes it, though - lots of visitors. And lots of ladybugs! The whole place was literally crawling with them. Nice L-4 structure, just like Sugarloaf.

Two fire lookouts in two days - life is good.
