| partners | | While staying a week in a condo in Taos Ski Valley we hiked 6 days alternating between strenuous and easy or moderate hikes to allow time for these old bones to recover after the strenuous ones. We executed this plan perfectly over two weeks and it works for me.
Gold Hill is a strenuous hike with a difficulty rating of maybe 4. In the Wheeler Peak Wilderness in Carson National Forest you will not find healthier forest anywhere. No fire damage, no or little plant disease problems and almost no bugs even though there is plenty of water in many streams and lakes and this was August.
This was a beautiful hike on a near perfect weather day. We met the Forest Ranger in charge of the Wheeler Peak Wilderness at the peak. She works out of the Questa Ranger Station and was able to answer our routing questions with great precision. Unusual to meet a Ranger who actually hikes the trails. Refreshing for sure. |
