Did this group hike from the 7th Avenue trailhead in a clockwise direction. It was a beautiful autumn day with good visibility. First stop was at the remains of the old Cloud Nine restaurant on the south side of Shaw Butte. I had always wanted to visit this site, since my mom told me years ago that she would occasionally go there with friends, before it burned down in 1964. I must say, it would have been a great place to dine and look out at the lights of Phoenix. After spending some time at the Cloud Nine, we headed up to the peak and then down the service road along the north and east side. On the way down we stopped at the site of a prehistoric Hohokam observatory, before continuing the loop back to the cars.
