| no partners | | For several weeks now the weather experts have been telling us that this year should be a once in a decade year for fall colors. I have been making several trips out to my favorite color sites and monitoring the progress as the trees begin their transformation. It has been a slow change (I guess the trees had to meet the expectations) and this last week I kinda figgured that it would be now or never.
On Thursday, I hit two of my favorite walking areas and found the colors at peak and almost past peak colors. The weather was expected to take a change for the worse with heavy overcast and strong winds due to arrive so I had to take my chances.
The first area was a seldom used road that passed through a forested wildlife area with trees branching completely across the roadway making a natural tunnel of trees, leaves and branches. I have been down this road for the last 8 Autumn seasons waiting for this day. The wind was beginning to pick up and some of the photos shows the falling leaves in motion as they blew across the road.
The temp was in the mid 80's which is well above the normal temps for this time of year, and the clouds were forming so it was the perfect time to be out. I had an especially good time because I know this won't last long, soon the weather will deteriorate and the snows will begin. And I hope I will be comfortably in my Apache Junction home for the duration. |
