| partners | | I read about this trail in Sunset magazine, and I figured if it was published there we would find tons of people on the trail. But the new Tom's Thumb Trailhead hasn't even opened yet, and all the signs aren't up on the Marcus Landslide trail. There is still one section of barbed wire fence right at the junction of the desert floor with the landslide mass.
You must must must look at Reference #2 in the hike write up for the virtual tour of the landslide. I learned so much from those slides in preparing this hike write up.
We all four set out on a kind of hot day but the sun was setting and it wasn't bad. I carried George on my back. Brad carried Caroline when she didn't want to walk anymore. Totally quiet - no one around - incredible beauty everywhere. Didn't have enough time to go up slide mass this hike. Just went to barbed wire and back - most on a reconnaissance mission to see what the trail was about. |
