We left the TH at 7:30 a.m. and ended at the Mining Camp restaurant at 4:30 p.m. We arrived at the Carney Springs saddle at 8:35, so that portion was made in pretty good time. We had no trouble finding our way having done the ridgeline hike in two sections a number of times before trying the 'Whole Thing'. When doing the portions, we would leave from Hieroglyphic TH to Carney Springs or Siphon Draw TH. In any event, we know the way and had seen any areas that might cause us problems. We didn't meet any other hikers until we arrived at the Flatiron chute. We were pleased that so many cairns marked the way, but there are a few deceptive ones that I didn't know where they led to. We dropped from the flatiron chute at 2:00 p.m. It took longer than we thought to get down the chute than we expected, but knees were a bit wobbly by that time.
A grueling, fun hike with wonderful vistas. |
