| partners | | Well this was on my bucket list for a long time and it was supposed to be done last year. Timing just didn't work out with Mark (Amy's Boyfriend) but today was the day. He is a masterful climber and was a great lead.
I now understand why you can see Weavers from almost every other hike around Arizona. It's because you can see every other range from the top of the needle! To say the views are spectacular would be and understatement.
On the way back down Amy and Mark rappelled off the top to the chock stone, while I down climbed the same route that we went up. Roping is not necessary in this area unless you have an exposure problem.
Then came getting down from the chock stone. First Amy rappelled down and I was up. I had two options. One was for Mark to belay me or for me to rappel. I decided to rappel. This is something I have never done and it felt very unnatural. I need more practice to rappel smooth and gain a comfort for the activity. Personally I would have rather just down climbed it with a rope at hand in the event anything happened.
There is maybe 7 to 10 feet below the chock stone that would be tough going down without some form of protection.
This hike and climb was Muy Bueno! |
