| no partners | | I last visited this peak in 2015. I figured it was time to head back up. The weather is turning, so I asked a few hiker buddies to come along. I told them it was hard, but I think they underestimated it a little….ha ha. I think they will forgive me to “tricking them” into this one.
We started at 630am, the temps were a lovely 70 degrees. The hike up Carney Springs was the usual torture march. I like the way this trail is broken up into sections. The easy bits at the start, then the steepness up the false saddle, and then final push up to the saddle.
We all survived the Carney experience and made our way across the ridgeline. The cairns are pretty complete across this section of the trail. The up and down to the Boulder Creek intersection gave way to the mostly UP and more UP towards the Three Sisters. This part of the trail was really overgrown. All three of us had shorts on and all three of us looked like we lost a fight with a cat.
We made it up and around the Three Sisters to the rock portal. The final push to the Peak was the usual funtimes. The granite spires up here are so beautiful. We made it to the summit and took a much earned rest. The views up top are always amazing.
The hike down was a slow go as my hiking partners (am me too) were a bit fatigued from the climb up. The midday heat did not help – 90’s are not 100’s, but still pretty toasty. I think we all finished off 5-6 liters of water on this one.
We made it across to the Carney saddle and started down to the T/H.
We some a small group of Wave Cave hiker at the start, then another couple heading that way on the way back. Other than that, we saw no other people. Not many critters either. Very quiet and peaceful the entire hike. |
