| partners | | With a few hours left in the year and stats being the only driving force in my life, I had to take advantage of Lee deserting me on New Years Eve (again ) to summit my 77th peak of the year and assure a paper thin victory over him.
Trumbull was in pristine condition with 3-4 inches of new snow, and some flurries still falling. The first mile and a quarter is the killer here, really quite steep, though also offering some of the best views on the day. The upper half is more moderate, and well-cairned which was very helpful on this snowy day.
The summit highpoint is somewhat wooded but there's a steep cliff a couple hundred yards to the north that provides fantastic views across the Arizona strip.
The temps didn't get out of the 20s, but occasional sun melted some short sections of trail on the southern exposed cinder which provided some nice contrasts on the way down. I'm glad to have gotten this one crossed off the list. I really enjoy these rarely visited gems. |
