| partners | | This is one of my standard go-tos when it comes to snowshoeing here, but as with most snowshoeing in Arizona, certain things have to align to make it work right.
Today turned out to be pretty great. The downsides were that the storm was still hanging on rather than already being done, and last week's snow was super powdery and light due to the extreme cold, while this storm was relatively warm producing heavier, wetter snow.
Snowshoeing is much better with heavy snow on the bottom and light fluff on the top. As a result, breaking trail was slow and deep today. But the temperature was nice, not much below freezing, with no wind except for just a little bit at the top of the rim on the hike down.
Snow clung to every surface and made for exactly what my genes required for a day of rejuvenation. I gotta figure out how to do this more often!
PS there's a really nice trail for anybody who wants to do this in the coming days and weeks (depending what the weather does, of course) |
