When I edit a new Camp Grasshopper HAZ-Hike Guide for my "Car Camping" locations, normally I don't post it as a new, "full detailed" HAZ Guide, but this location should be such a great find for all those who enjoy camping on a scenic high plateau at 5734ft with remoteness, historic & present ranching history, shade, solitude, enjoy in-Vehicle or more primitive Tent Camping, have a capable 4WD vehicle, and for those who also would enjoy numerous options for off-trail day hike exploration (both out and back and loops) from the campsite, all this is available at this recommended "Car Camping" location 👍

Oregon_Hiker and I first visited this Sierra Ancha Mountains NW (Tonto NF) "Redman Mesa" area back in late Nov'18. We had camped at a different [ Camp Grasshopper - Sierra Ancha N.W. - FR609 ] location which was closer to the Young Hwy 288. Having day hiked a number of off-trail areas back in Nov'18 which included this Redman Mesa area, we knew we wanted to return for more.

This trip Oregon_Hiker and I planned a 6nt/7day camp 4/14 to 4/20/19. This would give us five full days of day hike options. I was able to join Oregon_Hiker on planned hikes for 4 of the 5 full hike days. The fourth day of seven, I stayed in camp to enjoy doing nothing but Camp G/H "tinkering around" which I am very good at! Oregon_Hiker actually day hiked a total of 6 days, one of which included our arrival day on 4/14. He is always quick to set-up his minimal in-vehicle campsite area and then disappear before I am able to ask him to help setup my time consuming Camp Grasshopper :)

This was a most enjoyable and rewarding week away which I needed. We had a number of unexpected surprises and scenic finds on this trip and we will surely plan to return for more.

Please review the detailed HAZ-Hike Guide and our 4/14-4/19/19 triplogs, photosets, and Gps routes for more reasons to plan a trip here.

It is a long, but scenic drive to/from the PHX area to/from the Redman Mesa area, so it does make sense to stay awhile if it can be arranged.

We took a lunch break on our Sat-4/20 day drive back home and stopped in Miami for a little Mexican.. :D
