In late November, 2018, we named this Google Earth located off-trail route the "Mystery Trail" after hiking it in for ~.75ml. A mystery because we could not conclude why, a number of years ago, it had been cleared and put-in :?

For our April'19, Oregon_Hiker had located an additional segment of this old route that appeared to parallel this "Mystery Trail" route to the East. The plan was to hike the entire loop segment ending back at FR609, then hopefully we would have a better idea of why the "Mystery Trail" route was put in. Maybe mining? Maybe ranching? Maybe..?

After completing the loop from Park/TH Start at FR609 down to seasonal Turkey Creek, then back up on the parallel route segment back to FR609, we easily concluded that this was an old ranching route that had originally been put in, then later redone for cattle fence construction. The original "Mystery Trail" segment down to Turkey Creek would allow the cows a route down to seasonal Turkey Creek for water and the parallel East fence segment would fence them in from roaming any further East.. "Mystery Solved"!

This first planned hike for me of four that I would join Oregon_Hiker on during our 6nt/7day Car Camping / Off-Trail Hike Exploration to this remote Sierra Ancha area, proved to be a good exercisie/loosing up choice for more to come.

We finished the day after again joining FR609 by doing another short road walk East to an un-numbered 4x4 route that went UP to end at a Peak 6418 highpoint where Arizona Game & Fish had an interesting constructed Wildlife Watering Tank setup. After a few pics of this area, we returned back down to connect again with FR609 and hiked the road back to our original Park/TH Start location. A good start to a most enjoyable and rewarding week away to our AZ backcountry.. :D
