He obviously enjoys Dinty Moore canned stew judging by the number of cans up there in the tower. Lots of black locust draping over the trail up to the tower. It's easy to duck under it but I still lost my hat a couple of times on the thorns. No sign of apples on the trees in the orchard. Red said they probably froze. Beautiful views through the scarred burned trees. Lush green meadows. Mountains and amazing rock formations and views of the Salt River valley. Workman creek had a fair bit of water although I didn't need to drink it. Saw a snake, many lizards, squirrels, birds and butterflies. It's a shame this trail is so far from my home (especially now with the cost of fuel). I would like to take my wife and kids up there and maybe camp out.
Thanks to R.S. for the gps route. By the way the road (487) was open clear to the top of the tower.
P.S. I feel like a dope. I must have walked right past the ruins. Anyone have the coordinates of their location? |
