Looking for a hike that would get me away from the blast furnace we call the desert, decided on Humphreys. Left at seven from Phoenix and made it to the trailhead around ten. Great hike, but not sure if it was the altitude or my physical shape (that would be 'round'), but I struggled mightily making it to the summit. When my lungs and legs were about to give out after five plus hours, and a small storm rolled in, I considered calling it quits until another day - but pushed ahead. Fine line between being determined and being foolish. Hate those false summits but what a view once I did get to the actual top! Loved seeing snow in July in Arizona. It was quite cool at the top, very glad I packed a sweatshirt. The storm chased all others hikers down so I had the mountain top to myself (it only actually drizzled a bit with a few claps of thunder). Unfortunately I could not enjoy it for long in that I needed to head down before nightfall. Made it with 15 minutes to spare - with a terribly sore body but an incredibly uplifted spirit! Highly recommend this hike.
