| no partners | | First Arizona hike in June since I retired 6 years ago Decided at last minute to not drive to Payson so instead parked near Crosscut Trailhead. Once on Siphon Draw Trail from Jacob’s trail I entered ahead of a couple of hikers and behind a couple so tried to keep socially distanced from both so pace was faster than usual to the saddle, at least there was some cloud and mountain provided shade. That was tiring but after a few minutes rest managed to unseat myself and head over to the ridgeline for 3845 , decided to not do the final push up through the vegetation in the warming full sun instead taking in a birds eye view of the Crying Dinosaur and then the former Mining Camp restaurant site before finally starting back. On the way back decided to use Prospector and Treasure loop to reacquire Jacob’s trail. Feeling some energy rebound from a slowed pace decided to go up to the base of Praying Hands before the descent down Treasure Loop. The trails were all clear and surrounded by dry vegetation, no wildlife today. The wind was primarily coming from the southwest so the smoke from the ongoing Sawtooth fire was drifting to the northeast obscuring usual views to the East while westward views were also hazy today. Hope we get a couple of cooler days this month , it was 81° out there at 0600 today. |
