Anxious to go somewhere I thought post-fire Black Mesa (across from the Sunset Rest Stop on 1-17) would be worth a look. I had planned to check out a new area on the south end but the fire didn't get that far so I retreated to the Arrastre Creek latitude - an area I've been to before.

It was pretty good walking and the fire cleared the grass well enough that ruin outlines and grinding features were easier to find. I think I saw a few more things than on previous "brushier" visits.

The fire took out most everything on the grassy mesa. A few areas of prickly pear will probably make it and I saw a couple furry creatures scampering around and some green grass coming up.
