| partners | | | I let the kids pick the hike today, and this is one of their favorites. Headed up San Gabriel, which was a little warm in the sun. Some whining ensued, but I didn’t have to threaten anyone. West on Guadalupe Ridge, which was slow at times with the kids crawling all over the boulders and trying to share their snacks with squirrels. Dropped down off the ridge just on the west side of Fat Mans Pass. Luckily it was cloudy again by then, and much cooler. Through Hidden Valley and down the wash. Light rain at that point, but the rocks weren’t slick yet. Kids were still having fun climbing around. Heavier rain and cold wind on the way back down San Gabriel; we went as fast as we could without slipping on the rocks. Despite the cold, the kids still wanted shaved ice afterwards. Those Salewas, despite being at least halfway through their tread life, do a pretty good job of gripping wet surfaces, better than my Salomons. |
