| partners | | Met Van at the Hiero trailhead at 0900 and got started. Plenty of people on the trail until we turned off and headed up to Balanced Rock. The route up was pretty well cairned, but we managed to get slightly off course in a few places. Easy to get back on track though. After Balanced Rock, the route was easier to follow, but just going up and up and up. Several scrambles, including one that was almost at my limit of how far I could reach and still have my feet on some sort of solid surface. I survived with minimal cursing or complaining.
There were several other people atop 5057 so we chatted with them while taking a snack break. After that, we headed down the east side of 5057 and headed north/west on the Ridgeline to the top of Hieroglyphics Canyon. Steep descent, but much easier than the ascent. Managed to get slightly off course once, but then the route was easy to follow after that. Great weather today, generally not too warm, and a surprisingly cool breeze. Good to see Van again, hopefully it’s not another five years until our next hike. |
