Took the trail to the right (south) of the building over to the powerline road, then made a left onto the Temporary Connector Trail. I've done that trail before, but it looks now like half of that has been decommissioned and rerouted to join the Axle Grease Trail, which has a whole new section added on the south end. Took the Axle Grease Trail over to the State Land Temporary Road, and over to the west border of the park, then back south to the Rawhide Wash Trail. From there I took Rawhide Wash northbound to Hawknest, then westbound over to the State Land Road again, finishing up on the new section of the Axle Grease Trail back to the trailhead.
Saw 3 owls in Rawhide Wash, but they were flying away by the time I saw them. Some bikers early on, and only 2 hikers. Weather was very cool early, and didn't get hot at all. Still very humid, but much better than it's been lately. Ground was damp from the previous night's rain. Seemed more humid in the wash than on the other trails, but it was breezier up out of the wash also. |
