After setting up camp we scouted the ridges heading toward Cimeron. The manzanita is dead but still standing so while not crazy like before still somewhat annoying. We hiked to an area referred to as Domestic park and back and then settled in for the night. In the morning we hiked over the scouted area and then continued up the ridge on the way to Cimeron Mountain. The wind had picked up on day two which added a little extra to hiking the ridge but that's all part of the deal. We hiked up 5384 and checked out some ruins up there, then over toward 5481 but along the route realized you can't follow the ridge to Cimeron Mountain without wings. We hiked down from the ridge and took a lower approach up to the summit. The views are really spectacular up there and there are two ruins near the summit and a nicer one a bit farther down just off the summit. We made it back to camp about 3:30 pm and got ready for the night. The days were nice and the nights were cold but really about perfect. We saw several deer, a lone coati and several ruin sites along the way. The hike is only rated a 2 out of 5 in difficulty which I find interesting. Maybe more people should try it. Bruce, this hike is not recommended. |
