Hike to Black Top Mesa incorporating the Black Mesa Loop in a clockwise direction. Passed Wally just after leaving the trailhead. That’s twice in a week!

1145 start. Slept in. Got caught up in a good book before getting off my duff and and out to the trailhead. That probably worked out better, though; it was chilly and a bit hazy this morning. It was gorgeous in the afternoon.

Pressed for time, I didn’t take a break until Bull Pass. I debated turning around there, but decided I could get to the top and finish before darkness set in. Proceeded up to the top for those special views. Headed over to the SE corner to check out the petroglyphs, but the light wasn’t right. I couldn’t see anything. Returned to Bull Pass and took a second break for a very late lunch before returning to the trailhead on Dutchman.

Finished a few minutes after five and was rewarded with a spectacular sunset on the drive home. Great day on the trails on a gorgeous afternoon.
