| no partners | | I was planning on a bike ride today, but it was too cold for me. I opted for a short hike out of First Water instead.
Noon start. I hiked up Second Water trail to a creek that crosses the trail about a mile into the hike. A TH volunteer once told me that there were some petroglyphs along that creek. With no other plans, I decided to see if I could find some, then return on Dutchman when the creek crosses that trail.
After a half mile or so, I decided that the creek hike / glyph hunt wasn't working for me, so I hiked up a ridge east of the creek for some views instead. I liked that better. I followed game trails along the ridge to wherever they led me until it was time to work my way over to Dutchman for the return.
Once on Dutchman, I wanted to stop somewhere for a late lunch. I noticed a use trail heading uphill to a rocky outcrop. I went up there, found a nice spot to sit and had lunch. The views from my perch were stellar. On a clear day, you can see forever. The Four Peaks looked like they were right next door.
It was a picture perfect day. An occasional distant cloud in the bright, blue sky. Cool, but no breeze to make it cold. It felt perfect in the sunshine, but coming back on Dutchman in the shade was a bit cold. Puddles on the trail still had remnants of ice from earlier in the day. There was more water (puddles) on the trails than in the creeks.
