This is not a hike, this is a playground. Nothing like a Arizona natural waterpark on a 100+ degree day. Five of us met in Mesa at 6am and arrived at the trailhead about 7:45am. Hiked in the mandatory 2.5 miles, and then it was fun time. We splashed into the creek and couldn't believe how refreshingly comfortable the water felt...and sparkling clear.
I told my group not to hurry. Lets enjoy this, enjoy the waterslides, boulder hopping, cliff diving, etc. We spent a good 3+ hours taking in everything the creek had to offer including the gorgeous pools and channels through which we casually floated and swam.
We arrived at the Jug. Rope was already anchored in the usual locations. It wasn't the thickest rope, but it did the job getting us out to the jumping platform. Four in our group jumped. The fifth (the smart one) chose to rappel. So, I positioned myself for belay and lowered him down the falls using the gear I had brought in.
By the time we got out of the water, it was hot! hot! hot! We made our way back to the trailhead, picking up our hidden water stash we had left at the top and arrived back at the vehicle about 1pm. |

This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee. |
