| no partners | | What an awesome canyon!!! Pulled into the trailhead about noon, maybe an hour hike down to the water and 2-3 hours in the canyon, then about another hour to get back up to the car. Well worth every step! Was a little warm on the hike down but luckily the sun was behind the hills on the hike back out. Tons of water slides, deep pools to swim through, just an awesome canyon. We took a small rope (not strong enough for a rappel) that we used for a handline to get out to the jumping point at the big waterfall. The rock was pretty slippery and it was kinda hairy getting out to the ledge where you could jump from safely. Next time I might look a little higher? There might be a ledge that is easier to get to but would be significantly higher of a jump (25' vs. 40'). The other group rappelled with no problem.
Tips:
-I was worried about getting to the trailhead in my civic...no problem, road was fine if you take it slow and river crossing was super shallow (at least this time of year)
-When hiking down to the canyon from the trailhead, just keep going until you see an easy spot to climb down to the water
-Take something soft to ride the slides and help float through the long deep pools (we took a $2 Wal-Mart tube that worked awesome)
-The water felt awesome, no wet suit needed (again, at this time of year)
-Gets a little chilly when the sun goes behind the walls, I was fine but my wife started
turning blue
-Everything will get wet! Take a dry bag.
-Don't do this hike unless you're comfy jumping 25' or rappelling |
