| no partners | | A cc loop from the North Mountain VC in late afternoon. Had a sandwich on the summit with some bumble bees working a bloomless palo verde nearby. Stayed on top 50 minutes, shooting photos with the use of a tripod. Saw a parasailer on Feb 14. I assumed he or she came off the S end of Shaw, but could not see today how someone could safely blast into space from near the windsock, which was operational again after an absence. Cable on one side, electric wires on the other. On my way down, I saw a vehicle on Shaw for the first time, a late model white van with a uniformed man driving. It was coming up from the saddle after easing down from Shaw Jr to the west. Not many doing the #306 up high. At 1842, coyotes began to bark and howl in all directions on the east side of the park. The commotion went on for three or four minutes. Beautiful day, pleasant hike. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Brittlebush in full bloom, ditto creosote. Up high, a smattering of golden poppies, fiddle neck, phacelia and some other little purple flowers I couldn't ID. |
