Took the opportunity to hike from Laurel Point Retreat up Sounding Knob Road to the fire tower which is on private land and not on Sounding Knob. Ran into one person on an ATV who was curious about what I was up to. Had his shotgun strapped to the front of the ATV expressed he likes Arizona because it’s an open carry state, unlike most didn’t ask about the Grand Canyon. Apparently living off the grid he mentioned he lived there all year round and had no water or electricity to his house. Only power he had was from a 12 volt battery which he could hook up from his vehicle or ATV. He was already working on his 2021 supply of firewood, quite an interesting character. After reaching the fire tower had about 80 steps to climb to reach the top. Glad to have had a chance to check the views from here despite the cloudiness today. |
