| no partners | | Probably should have titled this hike "Cave Creek Lemon-Lime" as yellows and greens were the bulk of the autumn color we saw. It's the middle of December but still not a lot of colors along the creek yet. A near freeze is predicted for tonight so maybe that will get the ball rolling. The creek is flowing with vigor and the recent high water marks were much higher than expected. New flood debris was WAY up in the trees!
About 42 degrees when we started but it warmed up fairly quickly. Glad I had my ear warmer and gloves in my fanny pack though! We hiked down to the creek and bush wacked down stream for a while then crossed over to go upstream and poke around on Elephant Mountain for some AEG before returning down to the creek. We ran into a very nice family from Alberta-British Columbia on their way up to the Fortress and we talked with them for quite a bit about hiking in our respective regions. Saw more folks than expected for a weekday. Everyone was friendly and we met the sweetest one-eyed rescue dog who I kept wanting to call Jack. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Moderate Almost there along the creek. Maybe with the cold snap in the forecast it will be better in 1 to 2 weeks. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated The most Brittlebush I've ever seen...even more than last year. No blooms yet, but it should be spectacular when they all pop. |
