| no partners | | Fine hiking weather continues, decided to make my annual trek up to Bluff Spring Mountain. Same route up as last year made the steep climb up from Bluff Spring Trail near the old mining camp ,marked as Williams camp in Carlson’s book, returned to Bluff Spring Trail via Ely-Anderson route. After rejoining Bluff Springs Trail I returned the same way, whereas last year I continued on the Miners Needle loop. Peralta trailhead what a difference from Saturday as I was able to park in the half filled upper lot. Peralta road was being graded today but not yet reaching the turn for the ranch by time I left today, the water filled low spot washes still contain a few inches of water. This was a hike of solitude today , one hiker from Utah heading out up cardiac hill before I started , never saw anyone else today until back to the lot. Surprisingly no wildlife spotted either, must have been talking to myself too loudly. Nice to hear and see the running water today. It was windy enough at the summit to give me an earache cured with the knit hat I bought along. The ammo box remains weather proof, I carried 2 small plastic bags along in case needed but it actually needs a new large plastic storage bag soon. Last entry in the log book was from 12/23/2019, the only December entry, the pen I left 3 years ago still writes, the photo copy of johnr1’s 2011 summit that Angela left is still in good shape. Always loved the views from here, seems like you can almost touch the needle. After spending an hour of quiet there went down and foraged around on the flat area while heading over to pick up the route down , did not find any abandoned antlers this time. Judging by horseshoe prints someone had ridden up to the area of the old stone corral from Crystal Spring area, don’t believe I would enjoy that one. Picked up the pace back on Bluff Spring Trail until sliding back down cardiac hill to the parking lot before dark. |
