Another day on the Highline...this time from the eastern terminus (the two sixty trailhead) heading westbound. The turn to the trailhead is signed, but there's no turning lane from the highway, which I found a little surprising. We arrived a little after 8 to find the trailhead empty. Paid a bit more attention to the info sign about the Highline trail and saw a url pointing to where more information might be had on the project...seems the page is no longer functional since the restoration project finished last summer. Have been reaching out to various agencies and organizations trying to surface an official GPX route of the updated trail alignment to no avail. Looks like I'll have to stitch together bits of my triplogs if we manage to get the length of the trail hiked to update the "official" HAZ route. A write-up I found about the restoration project indicates that the Highline is now over 60 miles in length - quite a number of miles added!

Today's hike was predominantly a woods walk - meandering along through pine, oak, and maple - we finally caught glimpses of the rim as we popped out of the woods and into a manzanita covered hillside as we approached the junction with the Drew Canyon trail. I don't remember the fancy Highline Trail gate from my last visit to the junction last June, but it doesn't look like I took a photo of the fenceline. We decided to stop for a break as the trail started heading downhill towards See Canyon. After a brief rest and a snack, we headed back, catching glimpses of the prescribed burn over near Rogers Mesa. The day was warm in the sun, but we had a decent breeze that kicked up over the course of the day. Arrived back at the trailhead to find another car heading out - looked like the people either stopped to use the facilities or just finished up their hike shortly before we did.

Wildlife: the usual birdsong soundtrack, various lizards, and butterflies. Saw some bear and elk prints along the way.

Other People: One volunteer with pup pulling flagging tape and signage left up from the Zane Grey trail runs.

Happier when hiking....I may not move fast (and I'm often distracted by wildflowers), but I'll get there eventually 😆
