| no partners | | Awoke at Noon Creek CG from a crazy night of storm chasing that started from Roper Lake SP and ended late into the night on the mountain. We then all drove down to the Road to Nowhere overlook for sunrise pics before everyone else continued on back to town and I went back up to Noon creek for a short morning hike. Heading up the trail I could see a big storm hovering over Heliograph Peak threatening to make this a very short hike. I made it up to the RTM T then dropped down into the canyon and down to the 20 foot waterfall when I heard the first big clap of thunder. Quickly snapped a few pics of the falls before high tailing it out of the canyon as the rain started coming down. I did not have my rain gear with me and spent the next 1/2 hour in one of the biggest downpours I've ever been caught in protected only by my emergency poncho. 2nd time this year my 99 cent poncho has saved my arse! It got raining & hailing so hard that it was flash flooding the trail and I had to take cover under a tree until the storm passed. It finally let up long enough for me to make it back down to my truck and off the mountain back home for some much needed sleep. |
