| no partners | | I finally got around to doing this hike today.
I mostly followed the route that @FLYING_FLIVER used. It was on a road bed for the first mile or so, then into a wash, then a steep climb in the upper part of the wash to a ridgeline, then follow the ridgeline to the summit. Lather, rinse, and repeat on the descent.
The hike went pretty much as expected, although the rocks and boulders in the wash weren't as bad as I thought that they might be, but the vegetation -- particularly all the palo verde trees -- was more onerous than I envisioned. The rocky ridgeline was more scrambly than I expected, so I was glad to minimize the time that I spent on the ridgeline.
The summit was nice so I hung out there for a bit. As others have reported, both reference marks are up there but the benchmark is nowhere to be found.
The descent went slower than I thought -- the ridgeline portion was very rocky, and on the way down all the palo verde trees limited my vision. Normally on a descent I can take advantage of an elevated position and scope out a route down, but today all that I could see most of the time was palo verde trees.
It was a nice day for a hike and I enjoyed being out there! |
